Your Active Utilities or Savant Energy bill shows how much of each service you used during the billing period and the rates applied to that usage.
The services and charges shown will depend on the utilities supplied at your premises and the pricing arrangements applying to your account.
Electricity usage
Electricity usage is generally measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh). Your bill may show:
the previous and current meter readings;
the dates covered by those readings;
the quantity of electricity used during the billing period;
the rate or rates applied to that usage; and
any applicable daily supply or service charge.
Your usage is generally calculated by subtracting the previous meter reading from the current meter reading.
Electricity tariffs
The electricity tariff applying to your premises may include:
Anytime rates – the same usage rate applies regardless of when electricity is used; or
Time-of-use rates – different rates apply at different times, such as peak, shoulder and off-peak periods.
Not every tariff includes all these rate periods. The rates and tariff applying to your account are shown on your bill, energy agreement or applicable pricing information.
Daily supply or service charges
A daily supply or service charge is calculated according to the number of days in the billing period. The purpose and amount of the charge depend on the service supplied, your pricing arrangements and the requirements applying to your account.
Network-only electricity charges
If you have chosen another electricity retailer while remaining connected through an embedded network, you may receive:
a bill from your chosen retailer for electricity supply; and
a separate bill for applicable services or charges associated with using the building’s private electricity network.
The particular arrangement depends on your embedded network and the requirements applying in your state or territory.
Centralised hot water
Where centralised hot water is supplied, usage is generally measured by a meter recording the volume of hot water delivered to your premises.
Your bill may include a heating charge, usage charge, daily charge or other applicable hot water charge. The description, unit of measurement and rate will be shown on your bill and will depend on the arrangements applying at your building.
For more information, see Understanding Your Centralised Hot Water Charges.
Heating and cooling services
If your building has a centralised heating or cooling system, your bill may include charges for that service. The unit of measurement and applicable rates will depend on the system installed at your building and your service agreement.
Reviewing your usage
Where your bill includes historical usage information, you can use it to compare your consumption between billing periods. Usage may change because of factors such as:
seasonal weather;
changes in occupancy;
heating or cooling use;
new or additional appliances;
the length of the billing period; or
changes in how and when services are used.
