Extension of 2024-25 Energy Bill Relief for households and small businesses
The Commonwealth Government has announced a $1.8 billion extension of the Energy Bill Relief Fund.
Australian households and eligible small businesses with electricity bills may receive up to $150 in energy bill rebates from 1 July 2025 to the end of 2025.
This is on top of the existing $3.5 billion energy bill relief being rolled out in the 2024–25 financial year. Under the 2024-25 program, households are eligible for up to $300 of energy bill relief, and eligible small businesses may receive up to $325.
Households and Small Businesses in embedded networks - New South Wales, South Australia, Queensland and Western Australia are pending details as to eligibility and how the payment will be processed. We will update this page as more details become known.
Households in embedded networks - Victoria
Customers in embedded networks can apply for the payment on Victorian Energy Compare.
As part of the energy bill relief extension, embedded network customers may receive an additional payment of $150 from 1 July 2025. Further guidance will be provided on how to access the payment once details are known.
Small businesses - Victoria
As part of the energy bill relief extension, eligible Victorian small businesses may receive an additional rebate of $150 applied to their electricity bill from 1 July 2025.
To access the energy bill relief rebate, small businesses must have:
- an active ABN as listed on the Australian Business Register
- a separately metered business tariff
- an annual electricity consumption below 40 MWh.
Small businesses in embedded networks
Small businesses in embedded networks, such as shopping centres and apartment buildings can apply for the one-off payment on Victorian Energy Compare.
As part of the energy bill relief extension, embedded network customers may receive an additional payment of $150 from 1 July 2025. Further guidance will be provided on how to access the payment once details are known.

National Energy Relief Rebates 2024/25
The Federal Government has recently expanded the above scheme and the 2024-25 Energy Bill Relief Fund will be provided as an electricity rebate to all Australian households and eligible small businesses, who incurred electricity on a nominated census date, to help soften the impact of rising energy prices through temporary and targeted energy bill relief.
In Queensland, the Energy Bill Relief rebate will take effect for from census date of 1 July 2024. In other states (NSW, SA and VIC), the rebate will take effect from census date of 31 July 2024.
How much is the new rebate?
All households will receive a $300 rebate.
Eligible small businesses will receive a $325 rebate.
Small business customers
If you are a small business whose annual electricity consumption is under or meets the threshold below, you may be eligible to receive this rebate. For more details on eligibility, please refer below to relevant state government links.

Residential and small business customers - VIC
All residential customers within Victoria who incurred electricity costs on 31 July 2024 will be able to receive the energy relief rebate.
Eligible small business customers will receive an energy bill relief payment.
To be eligible small businesses who incurred electricity costs on 31 July 2024 must:
- Have a separately metered business tariff
- Have an annual electricity consumption below 40 MWh
Customers within embedded networks are advised that they will be able to obtain the national energy relief rebate via the Victorian Energy Compare website. Applications will open from 12pm, 7th October 2024.

Residential and small business customers - NSW
All residential and eligible small business customers within the NSW who incurred electricity costs on 31 July 2024 will receive the energy relief rebate.
If you are a residential customer and already receiving any one of the below rebates, you will automatically receive this rebate payment.
- Low Income Household Rebate
- Family Energy Rebate
- Medical Energy Rebate
- Life Support Rebate
If you do not receive any of the above payments, or if you are an eligible small business, you will need to submit an application to receive the rebate. Applications can be submitted via the Service NSW website.

Residential and small business customers – QLD
Queensland customers who incurred electricity costs on 1 July 2024 do not need to do anything to receive this rebate. The rebate will be automatically applied to electricity bills.
For QLD households and eligible small businesses, the rebate will be applied as a one-off payment to accounts by 31 December 2024.

Residential and small business customers – SA
South Australian residential and eligible small business customers who incurred electricity costs on 31 July 2024 do not need to do anything to receive this rebate. The rebate will be automatically applied to electricity bills.
For SA households, the rebate will be applied as a one-off payment to accounts before 31st December 2024.

Residential and small business customers – WA
Western Australian customers who incurred electricity costs on 27 June 2024 need to apply for their rebates directly via the links below. Applications open 31st July and close 30 November 2024.
