Both the Federal Government and the Coalition have pledged an additional $150 in energy bill rebates for residential and small businesses to take effect in July 2025.   Specific details on distributing these rebates have not yet been released.  We will update this page as more details are known.

National Energy Relief Rebates

 

The Federal Government has recently expanded the scheme and the 2024-25 Energy Bill Relief Fund will be provided as an electricity rebate to all Australian households and eligible small businesses, who incurred electricity on a nominated census date, to help soften the impact of rising energy prices through temporary and targeted energy bill relief.

 

In Queensland, the Energy Bill Relief rebate will take effect for from census date of 1 July 2024. In other states (ACT, NSW, SA and VIC), the rebate will take effect from census date of 31 July 2024.

 

How much is the new rebate?

All households will receive a $300 rebate.

Eligible small businesses will receive a $325 rebate.


Small business customers

If you are a small business whose annual electricity consumption is under or meets the threshold below, you may be eligible to receive this rebate.  For more details on eligibility, please refer below to relevant state government links.

Timing and how to obtain the rebates varies across states, territories, and suppliers as determined by state government directives. 



Residential and small business customers - VIC

All residential customers within Victoria who incurred electricity costs on 31 July 2024 will be able to receive the energy relief rebate.

Eligible small business customers will receive an energy bill relief payment.

To be eligible small businesses who incurred electricity costs on 31 July 2024 must:

  • Have a separately metered business tariff
  • Have an annual electricity consumption below 40 MWh


Customers within embedded networks are advised that they will be able to obtain the national energy relief rebate via the Victorian Energy Compare website. We are still waiting for confirmation of when applications will be open.

Residential and small business customers - NSW

All residential and eligible small business customers within the NSW who incurred electricity costs on 31 July 2024 will receive the energy relief rebate.

If you are a residential customer and already receiving any one of the below rebates, you will automatically receive this rebate payment.

  • Low Income Household Rebate
  • Family Energy Rebate
  • Medical Energy Rebate
  • Life Support Rebate

If you do not receive any of the above payments, or if you are an eligible small business, you will need to submit an application to receive the rebate. Applications are expected to be open on the Service NSW website in September 2024.

Residential customers and small business customers - QLD

Queensland customers, who incurred electricity costs on 1 July 2024 do not need to do anything to receive this rebate. The rebate will be automatically applied to electricity bills.  


For QLD households the rebate will be applied to accounts by 31 July 2024.

Residential and small business customers – SA
South Australian customers who incurred electricity costs on 31 July 2024 do not need to do anything to receive this rebate. The rebate will be automatically applied to electricity bills.

For SA households and eligible small businesses, the rebate will be applied as a one-off payment to accounts by 31st December 2024.
