Electricity prices reflect the different costs involved in generating and delivering electricity to customers. These costs may change over time.
What makes up an electricity price?
The price of electricity may reflect:
wholesale energy costs – the cost of purchasing electricity from the wholesale market;
network costs – the costs associated with transmitting and distributing electricity;
environmental and government schemes – costs arising from renewable energy and other applicable government programs;
metering costs – the costs of reading, maintaining and managing electricity meters;
retail and service costs – the costs of billing, customer service and managing electricity supply; and
embedded network costs – where applicable, the costs associated with operating and maintaining the building’s private electricity network.
These components may not appear as separate charges on your bill.
Why might electricity prices change?
Active Utilities and Savant Energy may review electricity prices when underlying supply costs, network charges, regulatory requirements or other costs associated with providing electricity change.
Any price change will be made in accordance with your energy agreement and the regulatory requirements applying to your account. We will notify you of a price change within the required timeframe and explain when the new rates take effect.
Why can rates differ between customers?
Electricity rates may vary depending on:
your location;
the business supplying your electricity;
whether you are supplied by an authorised retailer or an exempt seller;
the tariff applying to your premises;
your meter and usage pattern;
the pricing arrangements for your embedded network; and
the regulatory requirements applying in your state or territory.
For this reason, another customer—even someone in a different embedded network—may have different electricity rates.
