If your building has a centralised hot water system, your bill may include a heating charge.

The heating charge relates to heating the water delivered to your premises. It is not a charge for heating the rooms in your home or business.

In most buildings, your meter measures the volume of hot water delivered to your premises rather than the electricity or gas used to heat it. The heating charge is calculated using your metered hot water usage and the rate or calculation method applying at your building. A conversion factor may be used where required to calculate the equivalent energy used for heating.

The applicable calculation depends on the central hot water system, the service arrangements at your building and the regulatory requirements in your state or territory.

Depending on those arrangements, your bill may also include a separately identified daily supply or service charge. Such a charge will only apply where it is provided for under the applicable arrangements and regulatory requirements.

Your bill will show the usage, rates and charges applying to your premises.
